England: Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott could make his senior debut in the friendly

Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott is set to make his England debut in the upcoming World Cup warm-up in the United States.

Scott, Rio Ngumoha, Josh King, Jason Steele and Ethan Nwaneri have traveled as supplementary members of the England squad for their preparation camp in Florida.

They await the arrival of Arsenal quartet Declan Rice, Bukayo Saka, Eberechi Eze and Noni Maduke and Crystal Palace goalkeeper Dean Henderson following their participation in the European final.

Henderson will arrive in the next 24 hours, with the other four expected to report for duty over the weekend.

It is understood that despite not being selected in Thomas Tuchel’s full squad for the World Cup, an additional five squads will be eligible to play in the friendlies against New Zealand and Costa Rica.

Five will remain in Florida for the duration of camp, and the remaining five players will not return when they report for duty.

The Scot was named in Tuchel’s provisional 55-man squad for the tournament, meaning that of the five supplementary players, he is the only one to feature in the full World Cup squad at this stage should any injuries occur.

With that in mind, the 22-year-old has a strong chance of making his international debut in the upcoming friendlies before he goes on his summer break.

Scott received his senior first call-up for the November matches against Serbia and Albania but did not feature.

Tuchel then left out the squad to face Japan and Uruguay in March before dropping the Scot from his final 26-man World Cup party.

But to explain why he decided to bring five additional players to the United States for their pre-tournament camp, England’s head coach said: “I’m really happy these guys are with us, especially Alex, who was with us in the list of 55 and also made a kind of disappointing call that he didn’t make the first cut. But his reaction was outstanding, just to be a step closer and to be committed. The team was not a question for him.

“He showed me his character and his spirit so I’m glad he’s with us because it was a close call.”
