Your Phone Notifications Reveal More Than You Think. Here’s How To Close It

There is good news: Apple is out and iOS 26.4.2 update which ensures that information is properly stored when information is lost. Make sure your iPhone is updated (via General > Software Update) and you should be protected from this type.

However, the situation affects everyone who wants to protect their privacy. And while Apple has changed iOS’s privacy policy, there are steps you can take to reduce your risk in a similar situation.

What Has the FBI Done?

Unsurprisingly, the FBI is reluctant to provide step-by-step instructions on how to break into cell phones and extract data. However, through the reports of 404 Media and analysis from experts such as cybersecurity experts Andrea Fortunawe can make reasonable predictions about what happened.

What is clear is that the law enforcement team did not breach Signal’s encryption, or hack into any of Signal’s databases, but instead focused their attention on data stored by iOS. It is clear that the FBI can only release incoming messages rather than outgoing ones, because messages sent from the device will not appear on the alert.

Considering that Apple keeps iOS tightly locked, it appears that the tested iPhone was unlocked, or in the After First Unlock (AFU) state. When the phone restarts and shows the lock screen, it’s Before Unlocking (BFU) – but if you lock and unlock your phone all day, it’s AFU.

Both countries feature a lock screen to protect your phone from unwanted visitors, but BFU comes with additional security and encryption options. It is one of the reasons for Android phones now reboot if it hasn’t been used for three days – because the first screen you open after restarting is a little more secure.
