He is tired of managing Arsenal matches.
Last Saturday’s Champions League final between Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal saw some controversial refereeing cases that opened the door for criticism against German referee Daniel Seibert.
Paris Saint-Germain won the Champions League trophy for the second season in a rowAfter beating Arsenal on penalties after drawing 1-1 after regular time and extra time.
However, there were some controversial refereeing incidents during the match, including Paris being awarded a penalty in the first half for a handball on Bukayo Saka.
Similarly, Arsenal’s players complained that they were not awarded a penalty after Noni Madueke and Nuno Mendes collided in the penalty area minutes before the end of the second half.
Daniel Seibert headlined ahead of the final, having previously officiated Arsenal’s quarter-final first leg against Sporting Lisbon and the semi-final second leg against Atletico Madrid as well.
Former French league referee Gilles Vizier believes that the European Football Association (UEFA) made a mistake by assigning the German to the final match.
According to the report of the “Foot Mercato” website, Vizier stated that Seibert was simply tired of managing the “Arsenal” matches.
The former French referee told the RMC Sport network. “I completely agree. A person is tired of the situation, he is in a negative mood. He’s in the finals and sees how ugly the game is. It was a mistake to appoint this referee as he officiated their match in the semi-finals. It is unacceptable to discriminate between referees in the presence of many referees in both the semi-final and the final.”
He added: “It is UEFA who made this mistake. They put him in a difficult position. He previously officiated their (Arsenal) match against Atletico in tough conditions. They gave him another dose of it. I wouldn’t want to be in his place.”
