Alfie Hewett reached the quarter-finals of the men’s wheelchair singles at the French Open but lost his first-round match to fellow Briton Gordon Reid.
Hewett, 28, beat French wildcard Guillaume Laget 6-3, 6-0 on Court Suzanne Lenglen after the match was postponed due to rain in Paris.
The 10-time Grand Slam champion has won the French Open three times but last won the clay title in 2021.
He will face China’s Ji Zhensu later in the week for a place in the semi-finals.
Earlier, the 34-year-old Reid beat eight-time Grand Slam champion Tokito Oda 6-2 6-4 in a rain-interrupted match.
Making his debut in the competition in 2013, it was the first time the Scot had failed to reach at least the quarterfinals at Roland Garros.
Reid will return to action with Hewett in the men’s wheelchair doubles on Wednesday when they face French-Brazilian partners Frederic Cattaneo and Daniel Rodriguez.
The British top seed has won the last six editions of the men’s wheelchair doubles event in the French capital.
Oda has been a dominant force in men’s wheelchair singles over the past 12 months, winning four consecutive Grand Slam titles.
The Japanese star, who won Paralympic gold on Paris clay in 2024, is bidding for a fourth consecutive French Open crown.
Elsewhere, in mixed doubles, Briton Neil Skupski and his American partner Desiree Krawczyk lost their quarter-final 7-6 (7-5) 7-5 to German-French pair Laura Sigmund and Edouard Roger-Vasselin.
