Marco Silva to step down as Fulham boss amid Benfica talks

Fulham Manager Marco Silva has confirmed the 48-year-old will leave the Cottagers after five years in charge. Benfica are close to agreeing a deal to take over.

Silver’s contract expires at the end of June and uncertainty surrounds his future in the final months of the season.

The Portuguese were offered a new three-year contract with the club keen to keep him.

Silva, who previously managed Hull City, Watford and Everton In England, the appointment was made in 2021 when Fulham was in the championship.

He managed the London club to promotion in his first season and has since established them as a Premier League side.

“After five years, our journey together ends,” Silva said in an open letter to fans.

“My staff and I have always felt your support. Will never forget it. Fulham Will always be in my heart, and sooner or later I will be back at Craven Cottage.”
