Ableton allows musicians to create browser-style extensions for Live

Ableton already has it Max for Livewhich allows users to create MIDI effects, synths, and samplers on its digital audio processing (DAW) system. But now it’s his Additional SDKfeatures can be added Ableton Live and plain JavaScript. Where Max is limited to MIDI and audio processing, Add-on can affect almost any part of the DAW with a single right-click within a Live set.

The company offers several additional models that include the ability to rename multiple tracks, record song arrangements, and cut samples. The idea is that add-ons can simplify tedious tasks, provide updates, or connect Live to other devices. Someone managed to run Ableton Live Destruction.

One, for example, called Administrative Assistant allows you to upload your music without having to copy and paste a bunch of different audio or MIDI tracks. You simply put in the order of your verse, chorus, bridge, etc., select a few bars each, then hit create, and it automatically populates your Live view with the specified clips. You can go back to the Arrangement Assistant and edit your song again if you want to add an interlude or move the song in front of the first verse.

RNMR is an extension that allows you to rename images. For example, if you’ve just recorded a few songs, but forgot to rename the channel from the empty “audio”, you can go in and rename all the tracks to “lead guitar” and click “verse,” “chorus,” or “solo” quickly from the same dialog box.

Some of the examples Ableton provided converted MIDI data into printed music to share with other musicians, and cut up the drums and rearranged them using an open-source algorithm. BBCut.

The SDK can be downloaded for free from the Ableon website if you want to start interacting with Live Extensions. But it’s not possible in DAW right now. Live Suite owners can join Live 12.4.5 beta program to try early, though.
