France coach Didier Deschamps has refused to speculate on his future after the 2026 World Cup, stressing that his focus is fully on the upcoming tournament, which will be his fourth in charge of the Roosters.

The French coach, who was one of the candidates for the Real Madrid coach, said: “Don’t ask me what I will do after the World Cup, because I don’t know myself, but whatever decision I make, it will be right for me.”

Deschamps is expected to leave the France squad, while Zinedine Zidane is considered the most popular candidate to replace him, according to multiple media reports.

Deschamps emphasized that the past no longer occupies his mind, stressing that his attention is focused only on the present and the future.

“For me, only the present and the future are important, this is the only thing that deserves attention, as for the achievements of 1998 and 2018, they are part of history and no one will be able to erase them.”

He also spoke of the exceptional value of winning the World Cup, believing that the title perpetuates the players’ names, adding: “There is nothing comparable to being the world champion. Anyone who achieves this feat keeps their name, but adds the unforgettable words: world champion.”

Although France entered the 2026 World Cup among the hot favorites for the crown, led by stars such as Kylian Mbappe and Ousmane Dembele, Deschamps refused to overstate expectations, explaining that his country is “in a group of 10 to 12 teams that have a real chance of winning the title”.

The French team will start its tournament campaign with a strong confrontation against Senegal on June 16, then it will face Iraq on the 22nd of the same month, before finishing the group stage against Norway on the 26th.
