Scotland: Billy Gilmour admits emotional struggle as he misses World Cup

“Being so close to my childhood dream, playing in the World Cup, and now it’s been taken away from me because of an injury. It was hard to wrap my head around.

“Your support and kind messages over the past few days have meant the world to me and have not gone unnoticed, so thank you so much.

“I’ll see you all back doing what I love soon, but until then, let’s get behind the team and cheer them on. Come on Scotland!”

Scotland qualified for their first World Cup finals since 1998.

Head coach Steve Clarke and his squad left Glasgow for the United States on Sunday and will face Bolivia in their final friendly in New Jersey on Saturday.

Scotland open their Group C campaign against Haiti on Sunday, June 14, before games against Morocco and Brazil.
