UK Weather: The Met Office has announced the warmest spring on record for England and Wales.

England and Wales are on record for a warm spring, according to the Met Office.

March, April and May – the three months that comprise meteorological spring – also rank in the UK’s 10 warmest since records began in 1884.

It broke temperature records across the UK after an early and unusually warm spell at the end of May. Some areas recorded six consecutive days above 30C.

The three hottest springs on record now stand as 2026, 2025 and 2024.

Met Office scientist Dr Emily Carlisle said: “This spring reflects the natural variability of UK weather and the long-term warming we are seeing.”

She added: “The fact that nine of the 10 hottest springs in England have occurred since 2007 shows ongoing changes in the UK’s climate.”
