Craig Bellamy: Wales boss rejects club’s offer to commit to Euro 2028

Bellamy, appointed on a four-year deal in the summer of 2024, has made an impressive start as Wales head coach, his first senior managerial role.

The former captain went unbeaten in his first nine matches, won promotion to the top tier of the Nations League and developed an attacking new style of play.

However, his first qualifying campaign ended in failure as Wales lost to Bosnia-Herzegovina in their World Cup play-off final.

Bellamy has often been linked with a move into club management and has been open about his desire to make that change after leaving Wales.

However, leading Wales to Euro 2028 – a tournament they will co-host with England, Scotland and the Republic of Ireland – is a huge incentive for him.

There has yet to be a formal bid for Bellamy and any potential suitors would have to pay a release clause of at least £700,000 to get him out of his contract with the FAW.

“I don’t see it being right for me to leave. It’s not right,” Bellamy said.

“I had one or two players ring up and say, ‘Is this true?’. Listen, we’re not going anywhere. We’re going again, we’ve got two more years.

“I’ve always wanted to do this role, so I don’t want to put it away. I’m getting great support, you know, and that’s all I could ask for.”
