The smartest deal is more important than the most expensive deal
Former Bayern Munich chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has confirmed that Paris Saint-Germain have become a role model for Bayern after they managed to win the Champions League title two seasons in a row thanks to teamwork rather than expensive star politics.
Rumenige said in his statements to the newspaper.Munich MercuryGerman. “The most important lesson for Bayern to learn is that the most expensive deal is not necessarily the best, it’s the smartest deal that makes the difference.”
“Paris Saint-Germain achieved great success when they transformed from a team that relied on a group of stars with huge salaries and deals to an integrated collective system that works with the spirit of one team.”
The Parisian club failed to achieve the dream of a continental crown during the years that included glittering names such as Lionel Messi, Neymar Jr and Kylian Mbappe, before winning their first Champions League title in 2025 after those names left, then retaining their title this season after beating Arsene on penalties.
Rummenigge continued. “Paris Saint-Germain’s experience also proved that success does not necessarily have to be emulated by English or Spanish clubs, but that Bayern Munich can benefit from the Parisian club’s approach to achieving their goals.”
He also praised Belgian coach Vincent Kompany, stressing that the current project is going in the right direction. “Bayern Munich is led by an accomplished coach with a clear vision and it is important that we continue to work and build with him in the next phase.”
Bayern Munich were knocked out of the Champions League in the semi-finals by Paris Saint-Germain, losing the first leg 5-4 in an exciting encounter in the French capital, Paris, before drawing the second leg 1-1 at home.
Rummenigge described that confrontation as the best match of the tournament this season, noting that it shows the great potential of the Bayern team.
“It was a great night of football by any standard and it showed the real potential of our squad, so we need to continue to build and develop with our current manager.”
