Cape Verde issues severe warning to Saudi Arabia and Spain

With a huge win over Serbia

Cape Verde have given their rivals an early warning after a big 3-0 win over Serbia in a friendly at the Estadio do Restelo in the Portuguese capital of Lisbon.

With this, the team gave a warning to its rivals in Group H of the World Cup, which are Spain, Saudi Arabia and Uruguay.

The African team, ranked 69th in the world and characterized by tactical discipline and speed in attacking transitions, took great pleasure in forcing their advantage over Serbia, ranked 39th in the FIFA rankings, despite the latter’s absence from the World Cup finals.

Kevin Lenini opened the scoring in the 11th minute after an organized attack led by veteran Ryan Mendes down the right flank, before a perfect pass into the box, which Lenini capitalized on with a left-wing shot that went into the net to give his country an early lead.

The Serbian team tried to get back into the game and almost equalized when Milosevic’s effort hit the post, but Cape Verde kept their defensive cohesion and managed to close the gaps in front of their opponents.

Coach Pedro Brito made six substitutions at the start of the second half and these changes quickly paid off as substitutes Laros Duarte and Benchimol led two successful counter-attacks in just four minutes, turning them into two goals to decide the match once and for all.

This victory gives the Cape Verde national team a great moral boost ahead of their historic participation in the 2026 World Cup. It also reflects the team’s significant development and its ability to compete with more experienced and ranked teams, sending a clear message to Spain and the rest of their rivals ahead of the tournament.
