CAF awarded the title to Morocco

Senegal coach Pape Thiau has ignored the decision of the African Union, deeming his team defeated in the Africa Cup of Nations final and awarding the title to Morocco, days before the start of the World Cup between America, Canada and Mexico.

Tiau made new statements about this file during a press conference held in the US Senegal – America friendly matchWhile preparing for the final round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will start in a few days.

“Winning the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) was important because that was one of our goals. But now the tournament is behind us. We know we are African champions, but now we are coming out of the best tournament in the world, which is the World Cup, with strong teams.

He continued. “It’s more like a marathon than a short distance race, so we have to prepare well for it to start competing strongly and go in search of something to achieve.”

He concluded. “We know we have the right squad and team to do it, the enthusiasm is there and the desire is there. Therefore, I believe that we will play with all our cards and to the best of our ability to ensure the best possible participation in the World Cup.”
