Salem Al-Dossari strengthened his position among the legends of the Saudi Arabian national team after he took a new position in the list of footballers with the most appearances in the “green” jersey during the friendly match against Ecuador in the framework of preparations for the 2026 World Cup held at dawn on Sunday.
The Saudi Arabia captain featured mainly in Greek coach Giorgos Donis’ first appearance, taking his tally to 106 international appearances, surpassing the late star Khamis Al-Owairani’s tally.
Al-Dossari was equal to Al-Owairan with 105 caps before the Ecuador match, but his participation in the match gave him the sixteenth spot on the list of the most capped players for the Saudi national team in history.
The Al Hilal winger continues to write his name in golden letters in Al-Akhdar’s annals as he is regarded as the most capped player of the current generation at international level, well ahead of his close follower, midfielder Mohamed Kanno, who reached his 74th international cap in the same game.

Despite this achievement, Salem Al-Dossari still needs more appearances to come close to the historic names at the top of the list, led by legendary goalkeeper Muhammad Al-Deaiah, who holds the record for the most capped player for Saudi Arabia with 172 international caps.
Al-Dossari hopes to continue to build on his numbers in the coming period, especially as Saudi Arabia’s participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup finals approaches, as he remains one of the most prominent pillars on which the technical staff rely to lead the Greens on the world stage.
