Amanda Serrano retained her unified featherweight world title and tied the all-time knockout record with a barnstorming second-round stoppage victory over Cheyenne Hanson in the MVP women’s co-main event.
Serrano has always been heavily favored over German boxer Hanson (17-3) and needed just two rounds to secure his 32nd KO to tie Christy Martin’s record of 21 years.
The Puerto Rican boxer opened the fight clearly intent on securing a record-tying finish, trading blows with Hanson in the first round and forcing a stoppage with 2:25 remaining in the second round.
“It’s my time,” Serrano said. “With three minutes we can set up shots. I was feeling him out in the first round. But I think three minutes gave us more time to have fun out there, and what I was doing, I was having fun.”
“I can break the knockout record in my next fight. I can get my 50th win and break Christy Martin’s knockout record.”
Stephanie Hahn retained her WBA lightweight title and maintained her undisputed record as she secured a controversial decision win in her much-anticipated rematch with Holly Holm.
Despite a visible cut over her eye in the second round, Holm landed a number of hard punches in a thrilling fight that went the distance.
One judge scored the match 95-95, but Han, though coming out on top, was scored 96-94 by two judges.
Hahn has now won both fights between the two by decision as their first fight had to go to the scorecards early after an accidental headbutt.
The American could now be set to take on Katie Taylor in the Irishwoman’s final fight – and made sure to make her intentions known straight after the fight.
“The next fight I want, I know every fighter wants: Katie Taylor. She beat my sister Jennifer Hahn – I want to get that revenge fight for her.”
