Anticipation is building on Saudi Arabia’s sports street with the impending debut of Greek coach Giorgos Donis at the helm of the Saudi national team amid high hopes that he will lead Al-Akhdar to an outstanding 2026 World Cup final.
Saudi Arabia face Ecuador in the final round of their World Cup preparations, a match that is expected to reveal many features of the new technical project led by the Greek coach.
Former Saudi Arabia player Meshal Al-Said has made optimistic predictions about Donis’ future, stressing that the coach has the ambition and potential to make him one of the most famous coaches to ever play Saudi football.
“Coach Dennis’s ambition can make him the best coach in the history of Saudi Arabian football,” Al-Said told the Saudi “Riyadiya” network that the next round is a great opportunity for the coach to leave a unique mark on the national team.

He added that the players will enter the match against Ecuador with a different mindset, as each element will try to give their best to make a first impression on the new technical staff and reserve their place in the starting lineup before the start of the 2026 World Cup.
Saudi Sports Street hopes that Donis will be able to build a team that can compete internationally, taking advantage of his long experience in the Saudi league and his great knowledge of the players’ potential, which could enable him to write a new chapter in the history of Al-Akhdar in the coming years.
