According to an Egyptian intelligence official who spoke to Al Jazeera, Egypt has also invited senior representatives of Hamas, led by chief negotiator Khalil al-Hayya, for urgent talks to save peace.
The source explained that the communication between the parties was intense, saying that Cairo is rushing to organize talks before the end of the week to stop all fighting in Gaza.
This comes after another Israeli military attack on Gaza and statements from Israeli officials threatening to end months of negotiations.
At least 141 Palestinians have been killed in the past two weeks in an escalation of Israeli violence.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday he gave instructions ordering the military to increase the area under surveillance by 53% to 70%.
This is a serious violation of the US peace plan signed in October 2025 under the leadership of Mr. Trump, the center said.
Adding to the problem, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz has sparked outrage in the region by publicly revising the plan for “voluntary displacement” of Palestinians from the camp.
Speaking on the announcement confirming the killing of the newly appointed Hamas commander, Mohammed OdehKatz said that the process of forcing people to be transferred will be carried out “at the right time and in the right way”.
Cairo sent a warning to the Israeli government, rejecting any measures to force Gaza residents to evacuate voluntarily or to direct Palestinians to the Rafah crossing with Egypt.
Egypt has been cooperating with mediators in Qatar and Turkey, as well as US officials, to restore the process of negotiation, including the renewal of the original Gaza peace plan, which aims to reduce violence..
The source said that the Egyptians and their mediators know that Netanyahu’s recent statements about the expansion of the Israeli occupation of Gaza, as well as the violence that killed Hamas soldiers Izz al-Din al-Haddad and Mohammed Odeh, were driven by the election calculation and exacerbated by the problems that Netanyahu is facing in Lebanon.
Egypt contacted United States officials to ask President Donald Trump to immediately suspend Netanyahu, due to Israel’s recent escalation in Gaza, the source said.
A senior Hamas official told Al Jazeera that Hamas had received messages from Egypt aimed at escalating the crisis and preventing negotiations from ending, pointing out that a meeting in Cairo was expected within days.
Hamas has said that the end of the war was about to collapse due to repeated violations by Israel, and called on the US and other countries to take “urgent and immediate” action to force Israel to honor its commitments.
Israel and Hamas agreed to a ceasefire in October to end the two-year conflict, which has left more than 72,000 Palestinians dead and many Gazans homeless.
Although a ceasefire remains in place, at least 929 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks since October.
