Atletico Madrid star Koke has broken his silence on the future of team-mate Julián Alvarez amid talk of a possible move to Barcelona, a deal that could spark a rift between the two Spanish giants.
In an interview with Spain’s Marca, Koke spoke about the controversy surrounding Julián Alvarez’s future, a hot topic in Spain, especially with Barcelona’s continued interest in signing him despite the Catalan club’s contract with Antony Gordon.
Koke said: “I was in Minorca with my wife and my phone was switched off, after a year full of games and I was cut off from the digital world. All I know is that Julian is a player of Atletico Madrid and his contract is extended until 2030 and the release clause is millions of euros. That’s all I can say.”
As for whether Alvarez let him down, the midfielder added: “Julian, as I said before, is an Atletico player. He is doing his best and spent two years at the club.
Notably, multiple identical media outlets in Spain have confirmed that Barcelona have made a preliminary offer to Atletico Madrid to include Alvarez, who has confirmed his desire to leave the Madrid club.
