United States President Donald Trump has announced that he intends to remove his leadership from the John F Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, after a federal judge ruled that it can no longer bear his name on the building.
Friday, in 580 words postTrump criticized Judge Christopher Cooper as reckless. He also painted the gymnasium as the only dilapidated building he could restore.

“Unfortunately, Judge Cooper and the Radical Left would rather see US than President Trump turn it into something everyone can be proud of,” Trump wrote, adopting the third person.
But Trump’s intervention at the Kennedy Center, a sports complex in Washington, DC, has been controversial from the start.
Construction of the building began in 1964, shortly after President John F Kennedy was assassinated.
That year, his successor, Lyndon B Johnson, signed an act of Congress that established the site as a “living memorial” to the slain leader.
But since his second term, Mr. Trump wants to remake Washington, DC, in his image, creating construction projects and putting up billboards with his image.
A few weeks after his inauguration, in February 2025, he removed the members of the Democratic Party from the Kennedy Center and replaced them with his own choice.
He also ended the presidency of the former centrist, Deborah Rutter. The board elected Trump as chair instead.
But some of the biggest challenges came in December, when the board moved forward voted to change the building “Donald J Trump and the John F Kennedy Memorial Center for the Performing Arts”.
A day later, construction workers appeared outside the art center. adding Trump’s name to the outside of the house.
The protesters denounced the effort as a violation of the 1964 law, not to mention a sign of disrespect for the late Kennedy.
Amid public pressure and the dismissal of the players, Trump announced in February that he would do so to close the Art Center for two yearsstarting in July. He cited renovations as his reason for the sudden closure.
US Representative Joyce Beatty, a trustee of the Kennedy Center, sued for the shutdown. He also demanded the removal of Trump’s name.
Within the judgment of the court
In Friday controlJudge Cooper – appointed by former President Barack Obama – agreed with Beatty’s requests.
He ordered that Trump’s name be removed from theater displays, as well as any posters or official materials, within 14 days, citing the 1964 law.
“The Kennedy Center Act makes it clear that the Center must be named after President Kennedy, and cannot bear any other name or public memorial at the discretion of the Board,” Cooper wrote.
“Congress gave the Kennedy Center its name, and only Congress can change it.”
Cooper also reversed the board’s decision under Trump to strip trustees like Beatty of voting rights on Kennedy Center matters. Beatty is one of several bipartisan trustees who hold a seat on the board as a result of Congressional action.
“If trustees presumptuously have the right to vote, what, if anything, authorizes the Board to deprive other trustees of their right?” Cooper asked in his opinion, breaking the Trump-era policy.
“Without the consent of Congress, the Board may not deprive a duly appointed trustee of the Kennedy Center of his right to vote on matters on which all other trustees have the right to vote.”
In the final part of his 94-page decision, Cooper turned to the closing of the Kennedy Center.
He also cited claims and plans from the Trump administration that advocated using the stadium before the July closing date, saying he refuted claims that the facility was otherwise dangerous.
“The former president of the Kennedy Center Grenell confirmed that the Center will be one of the “first places” in the celebration of the 250th anniversary of America – very concerning if the Center is as dangerous as the critics represent,” Cooper wrote, referring to the events planned in the coming weeks.
He later added, “Until February 1, the Center was prepared to proceed with construction at a slow pace and did not raise any security concerns.”
While closing the Kennedy Center is in the agency’s hands, Cooper concluded that the agency breached its duty to oversee the center “as a reasonable person would do” under the law.
He therefore issued an injunction against the closure of the site. He wrote: “The trustees must have felt that the closure was justified in a number of ways.
Actions to the decision
The ruling prompted an angry protest from Trump on his Truth Social platform. The president promised to transfer control of the center to Congress, whose headquarters are already in operation.
“We will be working with Congress to turn this failed Congress over to them so they can figure out what to do,” Trump wrote.
He also criticized Cooper as an actor who had been treated “unfairly”, echoing criticisms of other judges.
“Judge Cooper should be ashamed of himself! I cannot be a part of a situation where danger to the People is allowed to spread openly and openly,” Trump said.
“Unless I have the freedom to do what I do best, bring the Organization back, physically, financially, and professionally, I don’t want to continue the hopeless journey to ‘NEVER NEVER LAND.'”
