The England winger lit up his presentation conference at Camp Nou

English winger Anthony Gordon spoke for the first time as a “Barcelona” player, emphasizing that his biggest ambition in his first season as a member of the Catalan team is to win the Champions League.

Gordon, Barcelona’s first signing for the 2026-2027 season and arrives from Newcastle for €70m plus €10m in variables, said at his presentation conference:

The 25-year-old expressed his delight at achieving his “childhood dream”, noting how much responsibility the Barcelona shirt carries. Playing for Barcelona is the biggest in the world and with it comes a lot of responsibility and I’m ready for it. The players who wore this shirt represent a lot of weight and you don’t move to a club like this every day.”

Gordon surprised the audience by speaking in Spanish, explaining that he had been preparing for this moment for years, and continued:

The English footballer admitted that he learned about Barcelona’s interest late, but did not hesitate for a moment when he confirmed the seriousness of the offer, stating:

Regarding the delay in the official announcement, Gordon downplayed the importance of the issue, stressing that he was reassured throughout. “I was relaxing in a hotel with my family and two agents. I knew the deal was done and it was just a matter of procedures. I don’t know the exact details, but those were legal issues that needed to be settled.”

Gordon confirmed that he comes to Barcelona hungry for trophies after a spell at Newcastle in which he won just one trophy, explaining:

On a technical level, he described himself as a player who relies on intensity and speed, and singled out his new team-mate Rafinha as an example. “If I had to pick a style, it would be like Rafinha because of the intensity, speed and technique. I want to help the team with goals and assists, because that brings wins.”

Gordon also praised his new teammates, recalling the previous confrontations against Barcelona and said: “Playing with Lamine and the rest of the players is exciting. They are first class players, the best in the world. I saw that when we met them. The atmosphere at St James’ Park is very strong, but Frankie and Pedri outplayed us.”

Gordon concluded by stressing that he had already spoken to coach Hans Flick and expressed his excitement about working under his leadership.
