Eight ABC television stations filed petitions to renew their original licenses yesterday, accusing the Federal Communications Commission of trying to suppress voice as part of an “unprecedented attack on a single broadcasting license company.”
FCC Chairman Brendan Carr has repeatedly threatened to revoke the broadcast licenses of networks that do not favor President Trump. He recently ordered Disney-owned ABC to apply to renew the licenses of all its television stations on the grounds that its diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) practices violate anti-discrimination laws.
“The only legitimate reason for issuing this Order is to punish the Station for saying things the government does not like,” ABC said in a statement. The FCC is “using the license renewal process to punish a broadcaster for its choices” in “an extraordinary display of power and coercion over non-conformist voices,” it said.
