Wigan v Hull KR: The Challenge Cup final showdown promises plenty as the rivalry heats up

Like Fish and Chips, Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier, Harry and Meghan, and Paul Weller and Mick Talbot (or Noel and Liam Gallagher for younger readers), Wigan Warriors and Hull KR have become a double act that has created a much-needed buzz in Saturday’s Challenge Cup final.

This isn’t a rivalry fueled by over-saturation, a tired dueling team desperate for new blood, it’s two teams whose encounters have sharpened each other’s will and skills.

It pits the historically successful elite against fresh challengers in the Super League cage during a golden period.

Since Wigan won the 2023 grand final, every domestic trophy has been collected by one or the other of the pair and both have topped the Australian NRL elite as winners of the World Club Challenge.

Wigan won a historic quadruple in 2024, targeting everything including the world crown against Penrith in the process, the Robins snared a treble in 2025 and collected four trophies of their own by defeating Brisbane earlier this year.

Saturday’s final between these two modern heavyweights at Wembley has all the makings of a stone-cold classic.
