Women’s T20 Blast round-up: Hampshire vs Surrey tie thriller

The biggest drama of the night happened in Southampton, as Hampshire, who had already paired with Somerset this season, did it again to finish Surrey’s 100% start to finish.

Surrey struggled to control a slow pitch, only succeeding with Alice Davidson-Richards with 40, while fellow birthday girl Amanda-Jade Wellington picked up 3-25.

The visitors looked set to close out the match before Nancy Harman hit 43 off 26 balls to turn the game into a nail-biter in the last over.

All the first five balls saw singles – be it bat, leg or bye – and the last ball ended as a run out as Rhianna Southby failed to get back for the second run.

Elsewhere, Warwickshire suffered their fourth straight defeat after being bowled out for 113 in 19 overs.

Durham had earlier scored 140-5 with a career-best 61 off 39 balls for Bess Heath.

Maddy Villiers and fellow spinner Katie Levick then struck twice for a polished Durham, as did Australian seamers Heather Graham and Sophia Turner.

In Manchester, meanwhile, Somerset suffered their first blowout loss of the summer.

After posting a mediocre 137-6 in their 20 overs, captain Sophie Luff’s total of 42 runs, they could not prevent Lancashire from reaching their target.

Lanning and Eve Jones shared nine boundaries during a powerplay that yielded 62 runs as the hosts cruised to victory in 16 overs.
