Northern Ireland: Brayden Graham and Sidach O’Neill Who Are Uncapped Youngsters?

Northern Ireland’s World Cup dream may have been ended by Italy in March, but June’s international squad suggests Michael O’Neill has one eye on the future.

The friendlies against Guinea and France gave O’Neill the opportunity to bring in young faces, with uncapped teenagers Brayden Graham and Sidach O’Neill included in the squad.

Fresh off the back of signing a new four-year contract extension with NI, O’Neill said this window presented an opportunity to “accelerate the players”.

Of course, there is no guarantee that they will establish themselves in the squad, but it gives them a chance to show what they can offer at this level.

“It’s hard to say they are ready to be senior international players. We have to keep that in mind,” said O’Neill.

“They’ve had limited minutes at first-team level, but they’re in our way and we’ve got to protect that and we’ve got to show them the way to play for themselves and become a senior international and they’re very well-respected in our way.

“There are players that I can put in instead of those young players. If I’m honest, I don’t think they’re playing at a high enough level in club football to affect the starting 11 at this point.

“So for me, the emphasis is on using some of the squad in terms of development.”
