Formula 1 heads to Monaco for the most famous race on its calendar as the race for the title heats up.

Kimi Antonelli made it four wins in a row after a dramatic Canadian Grand Prix in which his Mercedes team-mate George Russell retired with a power unit problem that brought an early end to their epic battle.

Russell now trails Antonelli by 43 points in the drivers’ championship but the Mercedes pair are not expected to have it their own way next weekend.

The Monte Carlo street circuit’s lack of straights and tight restrictions will suit Ferrari, so Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton have a great chance of ending Mercedes’ winning run in 2026.

Leclerc wins his home event in 2024 while Hamilton hasn’t won the Monaco Grand Prix since 2019 but wouldn’t be surprised to see one of them win this year.

McLaren will be looking to bounce back from a troubled Canada where they failed to score points at the Grand Prix after tactical errors, driver mistakes and unreliability.

Lando Norris dominated last year’s Monaco Grand Prix and McLaren’s car should also be competitive in Monaco, while Red Bull are unlikely to fight for the podium as their car’s power comes down the straight.

After two sprint weekends, Monaco sees a return to the traditional format of three practice sessions before the all-important qualifying session on Saturday at 3pm, with the Grand Prix on Sunday from 2pm.

Monaco GP Track – Circuit de Monaco

Monaco is one of four current Formula 1 events that were on the original 1950 calendar and is a staple of the calendar.

It is the shortest track in terms of layout at only 2.074 miles and is very difficult to overtake due to its proximity to obstacles. However, the slightly narrower 2026 cars will make for better racing than we’ve seen in recent years at Monaco.

Famous sections such as Sainte Divot, Casino Square, Hairpin, Tunnel, Tabac Corner, Swimming Pool Chicane and Rascas are some of the iconic features of the tight, twisty circuit.

Monaco GP Weather Forecast in Monte Carlo

The long-range weather forecast says it will be a dry and hot weekend in Monaco, with temperatures hovering around 28 degrees over the three days.

There is currently no rain in the forecast for qualifying on Saturday or the Monaco Grand Prix on Sunday.
