Azim vs Claggett: Trainer Shane McGuigan says Britain’s most talented fighter he has trained

Azim’s blistering hand speed and sharp combinations marked him as a formidable prospect in British boxing.

He is currently ranked seventh with both the IBF and WBO and was due to face Gustavo Lemos in January before being forced to cancel the fight due to injury.

American Richardson Hitchins recently vacated his IBF belt after moving up in weight and signing with Zuffa Boxing.

Following that decision, the IBF ordered number one contender Lindolfo Delgado of Mexico to face Canada-based Russian Arthur Bierslano for the vacant title.

Promoter Ben Shalom said a “statement win” on Saturday could give Azim a shot at the winner.

“We believe he can be world champion this year and that won’t happen without a win on Saturday night,” Boxer Shalom said.

“This is the biggest fight. It will be a world title fight before we believe.

“It’s his toughest test yet against a guy who’s in great form, coming off two knockout wins with a lot more experience than Adam, and he’ll really stick it to him.”
