One thing that hasn’t changed is that Scott will make the call, just as he did in those final few hundred meters in the Olympic final when Great Britain beat the Netherlands in the final stroke.
“I’m back to being the boss,” laughed Scott.
“I feel more comfortable this Olympic cycle as a leader for the scullers and perhaps across the team.
“Especially on the boat because I think naturally I fell into that position through Paris. At this point, I’m more comfortable just saying I’m a leader and being a leader because we need guidance.
“However, good leaders are honest, and they are not above anyone else. I am another piece of the puzzle but I am happy to share my experience to help others, which I think has been quite helpful this cycle.”
Scott certainly seems to be in a good place, drawing strength from the past as he builds on the future.
“I’ve honestly said every day since Paris, I’ve been grateful to be rowing and doing what I’m doing because I love it and I wouldn’t do anything else in the world.
“I think being an elite athlete is such a great job and such a great experience that it can’t last forever and I’m very aware of that.
“So I’m enjoying it, while it lasts.”
