A press release has revealed a surprising development that could change Barcelona’s financial calculations in the signing of Newcastle star Anthony Gordon.
According to Catalan publication Sport, Barcelona are set to pay more than €70 million to settle Gordon’s inclusion in one of the club’s biggest deals in recent years, but the Catalan board could benefit from a parallel move from Newcastle to ease the financial burden.
The paper explains that Newcastle have shown a strong interest in signing Moroccan star Abdel Samad Zalzouli during this summer’s Mercato, a surprising and welcome move for Barca.
He added that the English club is ready to make an offer exceeding 50 million euros in order to finish the deal quickly.
This is an important economic boost for Barcelona, who reserve 20% of the right to sell the Moroccan player, meaning the club’s coffers could be replenished by at least €10 million, which would be deducted from Gordon’s deal value.
The report confirmed that several other English clubs, such as Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa, are also tracking Zarzulli, but Newcastle are keen to move quickly before the competition heats up and the player’s value rises if he shines for the Atlas Lions at the World Cup.
The report suggests that Real Betis urgently need to sell one of their stars before next June 30 in order to improve their finances, which could make it easier for Zalzouli to leave this summer, although the Moroccan player has repeatedly expressed his desire to stay in the Spanish league.
