Hull KR’s Rhys Martin will retire after the World Cup

Hull Kingston Rovers forward Rhys Martin is set to retire after this autumn’s World Cup in Australia.

The 33-year-old scored three goals as such Robins beat Wigan Having won their first Super League trophy in last October’s grand final at Old Trafford, he says he wants more silverware with the club before he finishes.

But the Papua New Guinea captain sees a third World Cup as the natural end point of his career.

“I’m looking forward to finishing the year strong for Hull KR and giving everything to the team,” Martin According to the club’s website., outsider

“With it being the 2026 World Cup, it seems the right time to hang up my boots to represent my country at the end of the year.”

Queensland-born Martin, who won 21 caps for Papua New Guinea, made his debut for the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs in 2018 and went on to make a further 24 National Rugby League (NRL) appearances before moving to England with Leeds Rhinos.

A Challenge Cup winner with Rhinos, Martin spent five seasons at Headingley before moving to Rovers where he helped the club to the treble last season, surpassing 1,000 Super League points along the way.

He also scored three goals for the team Win the World Club Challenge He broke the club record for goals in a match with 16 against the Brisbane Broncos in February and a 104-0 Challenge Cup third round win against Wigan en route to this Saturday’s final.

“Ever since I was a kid, I’ve dreamed of playing professional rugby league and for this to be my life – I’m very lucky and grateful to have the career I’ve had,” added Martin.

“At the end of the season I leave knowing that I have given everything for every club I have had the honor of representing and hopefully I have left the jersey in a better place.”
