Luke Humphries: Premier League title defense in his sights as he claims ‘career-best darts’ | Darts News

Luke Humphries believes he is going into finals night playing “the best darts of his career” as he looks to defend his crown as Premier League champion.

Humphries were seventh in the table a month ago. But after making four consecutive weekly finals, including a Night 15 win in Birmingham, he confirmed he will be at the O2 to defend his title.

With such a run, Humphries went into Finals night as statistically the most in-form player among Luke Littler, Johnny Clayton and Garwin Price.

Humphries took on Clayton in the semi-finals as he looked to retain the Premier League trophy and, after a hard-fought battle, he believes he has found a purple patch he would love to keep as it includes some of the best darts he has ever thrown.

“I’m definitely giving myself more opportunities and feelings,” Humphries said.

“In the last four weeks, I’ve played better than I’ve done in my career and now I have a chance to defend it.

“Like I said at the beginning of the season, I don’t care how I got there, I wanted to get here.

“As long as my name is on the trophy again, I don’t care who or how I do it.

“It’s a very difficult tournament to win.”

If Humphries makes it back-to-back in the Premier League, he will join Phil Taylor and Michael van Gerwen as only the third players to achieve the feat.

Humphries admits it will be a proud moment to join such an elite list and it’s a record he’ll be chasing throughout his career.

“It would mean the world to me and my family,” he added.

“I like breaking records, I want to be a part of something that a lot of people don’t get.

“I’ve joined Phil and Michael on a few things and I’d like to join them.”

Pressure? Maybe hope!

Notably, this is Humphries’ third finals night in the three times he’s been involved in the competition, losing to Littler in the final in 2024 and then defeating him in 2025.

With the experience on his side, and the resilience he has built, Humphries knows he has what it takes to claim Finals Night glory once again.

“When you win it, there’s more expectation,” he said.

“People are more hopeful that you can do it again because you’ve already done it.

“You have to play two tough matches against two tough players. Now that I have that experience, it can help me.

“I’d say I’m probably playing my best, but coming into a night like finals night, it’s during the day,” added Humphries.

“I’ve got the momentum with me and hopefully it will be with me tomorrow.

“This year has obviously been a lot more challenging, I’ve been in a position I’m not used to being in the Premier League.

“The way I bounced back, that’s what I’ll take with me.

“I showed resilience and determination not to give up.”
