Kenneth Iwamasa’s verdict ends a five-person lawsuit over the Friends star’s death.

Former personal assistant of the actor Matthew Perry has been sentenced to 41 months in prison for the death of a television personality from a fatal dose of the hallucinogenic drug ketamine.

On Wednesday, Judge Sherilyn Garnett ruled against Kenneth Iwamasa in a Los Angeles court.

Iwamasa testified, as part of the plea agreement, that he injected Perry with ketamine at the actor’s request on October 28, 2023, before leaving for practice. He had no medical education.

When Iwamasa returned, he found Perry’s lifeless body floating in a hot tub at his Los Angeles home in Pacific Palisades. Perry was 54 years old at the time.

“I’m sorry to all of you,” Iwamasa told the court. “I am very sorry that I did something that broke the law and I will regret it forever.

Iwamasa’s verdict ends the prosecution of the five alleged accomplices control the player’s death by helping him get the drug without a doctor’s supervision.

Perry, best known as Chandler Bing in the sitcom Friends, has struggled with alcoholism and drug addiction for years.

Critics say he has grown increasingly dependent on ketamine, which is sometimes used to treat depression. They described Iwamasa as Perry’s “helper and donor”, continuing to give him injections despite difficult circumstances.

Iwamasa allegedly gave Perry more than 25 shots of the drug in the days leading up to her death, including three on the day she died.

Court papers say the Friends star asked 61-year-old Iwamasa to “shoot me big” in his final moments.

An autopsy report found that Perry died of “ketamine side effects”.

Perry’s stepfather Keith Morrison spoke in court on Wednesday to condemn Iwamasa’s actions.

“You keep injecting him,” Morrison said. “You can call someone else.”

Prosecutors also charged four other people involved in Perry’s overdose death. Among them was certified drug counselor Erik Fleming, who was sentenced to two years in prison earlier this month for working as an agent to help Perry with drugs.

Two doctors those who allegedly benefited from his habit were also found guilty and sentenced in December: Mark Chavez and Salvador Plasencia.

Chavez will serve eight months in prison after pleading guilty to conspiracy to distribute ketamine. Plasencia — who allegedly said of Perry, “I wonder how much this moron is going to pay” — received a two-and-a-half-year sentence in federal prison.

A British-American woman named Jasveen Sangha, who sold drugs to wealthy clients from her home in Los Angeles, was sentenced to 15 years in prison last month.
