Smart light company Govee apologizes for “white supremacy” advertising images.

Smart electronics maker Govee is apologizing after two books featuring the words “white supremacy” were featured in an ad image on its website.

The books appeared in an image (shown above) on Govee’s US website in a room lighting. Surprisingly, the books were sitting under the dolls on the shelf above the children’s bed. Only the textbooks were visible.

Seaside he was the first to report the conflict after a reader addressed the book. The publication said it had contacted Govee, who removed the photo but did not respond to inquiries from the site before releasing its first report.

When asked by Ars Technica, Connie Liu, Govee’s PR manager, said:

The image is from a third-party licensed library.

The Verge reported Tuesday that the commercial image was not owned by the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2 PA) or SynthID watermarking data that sometimes accompanies AI-generated images.

“However, we realize that our internal review and approval process did not meet the requirements. We are taking immediate steps to strengthen our processes to prevent this from happening again,” Liu said.

Liu did not provide specific answers to questions about whether Govee reviews commercial images before publishing them or what it takes to ensure its content is free of offensive content.
