While Trump did not use the word again in the early days of his second term in office, in May 2025, congressional information from the State Department revealed that the Trump administration is preparing create an Office of Remigration within the Bureau of Population, Migration, and Refugees.
The congressional announcement said the Office of Remigration would be staffed by people who were assigned to the Office of Western Hemisphere Affairs. “We in the Western Hemisphere Office did not know what this language meant to us, and although we had all the questions, our leadership could not or would not understand it clearly to us,” says the source, who worked in the State Department for many years. We didn’t know what was going to happen.
The decision was praised by right-wing groups as well as US and European leaders. Martin Sellner, an Austrian activist and former member of the neo-Nazi movement, he told WIRED at the time Trump’s point “to copy many of the boxes” when asked if he believed that immigration was already a thing in the US.
In June and July, Trump mentioned the term triple immigration on his Social Truth platform, linking it to the work that ICE is doing in relation to mass deportations. “It’s called “LEAVE” and, it will, MAKE AMERICA GREATER,” Trump tweeted on July 4. post on Truth Social.
Meanwhile, the workers were trying to change the name of the new office.
“The leaders of our office told us that they asked for these words to be changed several times, and they were told no,” said a source familiar with the work of the office. “At that time, people thought that if this was wrong, do they know what they are talking about, do they understand the meaning of migration?”
By the end of 2025, workers have begun to fix state-by-state payments in the negotiations that Trump has negotiated. The money was supposed to be used to ensure that the evacuees were housed in places that met humanitarian needs, but, according to the source, there was no monitoring or transparency of how the money was used after it was sent.
Although the Office of Remigration is not listed on the State Department’s website, a document published in January details the agency’s work.
“Immigration and border security are high on our agenda, especially for those in our community,” the State Department wrote in a statement. well prepared document published in January and 2026 to 2030. “This includes ensuring that foreign countries support the return of their citizens who do not have the right to remain in the United States; negotiating with other countries to accept the transfer of asylum seekers and illegal aliens who have been removed from American territories; and working with DHS to support their voluntary migration.”
In February, the minority of Democrats on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee published a report which shows the increasing consumption of some people driven by the price. “The total amount that the Trump Administration has sent to third countries through January 2026 is unknown but exceeds $40 million,” the report says. “A lot of money is given as compensation, often before the third-country nationals arrive.”
