Barcelona: Deco says ‘new era’ begins at Catalan club

England forward Marcus Rashford has spent the season on loan at Barcelona from Manchester United – and with his future uncertain, the 28-year-old has suggested he wants to stay in Spain next season.

Deco is not keen on Rashford’s future but believes he “deserves” the La Liga title.

Although Rashford was not a guaranteed starter, he scored a crucial goal against Real Madrid with a superb free-kick to break the deadlock in El Clasico.

Deco said: “We knew he had that kind of ability, I’ve seen him score many times for United, but this goal was unbelievable. It was a great goal.”

The Catalan club could sign Rashford permanently for €35m (£30m).

Deco added: “Marcus helped us a lot because he came on loan, it’s not easy for a player like him to come on loan because he’s a top player.

He helped us a lot because he had the responsibility to replace Rafinha, it was not easy but he did very well.

“Sometimes he’s (on the bench) and it’s not easy but he reacts very well and he’s done everything.

“He had a very good season and we are happy that he won La Liga with us. He deserves (it), he worked hard and worked hard to get here. We are happy with him.”

Rashford has made 32 league appearances for Barcelona this season, scoring eight times and registering seven assists.

He also made six and three assists in 11 Champions League appearances.
