“Ash thinks he is a lion.” Roy Keane publicly insults Bruno Fernandes

The atmosphere has flared up at Manchester United after former captain Roy Keane hit back at Portugal’s Bruno Fernandes, who openly accused him of “lying” following his recent scathing criticism.

Despite Bruno Fernandes’ exceptional season at Manchester United, after he won two Premier League Player of the Year awards from the League and Writers’ Association, in addition to breaking the Premier League record for the most goals in a single season with 21 assists, that didn’t stop him from being heavily criticized by Roy Keane.

After facing Nottingham Forest in the penultimate round of the English Premier League, Kane appeared on The Overlap to criticize the Manchester United captain, saying:

“What I heard at Manchester United at the weekend made me very angry. All the talk was about his assists. Everyone, even the players themselves, treated it as if the game was played only to achieve Bruno’s personal record.

He continued his criticism by condemning the Portuguese’s post-match comments where he said: “He came out after the game and said: “Maybe I should have taken a few shots, but I chose to pass. Oh, how can the Manchester United captain’s mindset revolve around one number instead of winning the game?

Fiery response from Bruno Fernandes

On the other hand, Bruno Fernandes was quick to respond to the statements of the former United captain, as he expressed his strong displeasure, considering his words to be a “distortion”.

“I’ve always stressed that I don’t mind criticism and I accept everyone’s opinion, whether positive or negative, and I usually don’t want to answer, but I don’t like people lying and what Roy Keane said about me wasn’t true. Fortunately, everything is documented, because if I don’t see it, only the player will pass.”

The Portuguese star continued. “Since joining the Premier League, my goals have remained the same and my style of play has not changed. It seems Roy Keane hasn’t seen the real Bruno. However, I respect him for his great history at the club and what he has given Manchester United.

Fernandez also revealed that he asked former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for Kane’s number to contact him directly, explaining: “I asked for his phone number so I could text him and tell him that I don’t mind criticism, but I don’t like my words to be twisted or made up of things I didn’t say, because that’s beyond what I can accept.”

“He can criticize me all he wants and say I’m not a good manager or a good player for the club. This is his personal opinion, even if I don’t like him. But I’d rather he praises me sometimes because what I’ve achieved with Manchester United, not many players have achieved.”

Roy Keane’s sarcastic response

For his part, Roy Keane indirectly responded on his official Instagram page, where he posted a picture containing a sarcastic phrase that reads: “Too much attention makes a donkey think it’s a lion.”
