Russia warns tourists to leave Kyiv as it prepares for ‘systematic strikes’ | News of the Russian-Ukrainian war

Moscow calls a ‘systematic attack’ on the Ukrainian capital in response to Kyiv’s recent attack on Luhansk.

Russia has warned that it plans to launch “more competition” for security equipment in Kyiv, and has urged foreign nationals to leave the Ukrainian capital.

In a statement, the Ministry of Defense said the protests were related to the attack on the Ukrainian plane last week. Student accommodation in Starobilsk in the occupied Luhansk region, killing at least 18 people.

Ukraine has upgraded its drone capabilities in recent months, and has seen significant success in striking Russian targets, particularly electronic infrastructure. Moscow, which launched a series of attacks on its neighbors four years ago and claims four regions of eastern Ukraine as its own, has called the attacks “terrorist” and responded with heavy missile and drone strikes.

The Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Monday that the strike in Starobilsk represents “the last straw” and that Russia will launch a systematic countermeasures in response, which will target “areas where UAVs are designed, manufactured, maintained, and prepared for use”.

Noting that such places are “scattered in Kyiv,” the statement says it warns “foreigners, including diplomatic and international personnel, to leave the city as soon as possible”.

It also urged residents of Kyiv to avoid proximity to military and patrol sites, it said.

‘Fear is murder’

Launched in the night from Thursday to Friday, the drone salvo that hit Starobilsk – One of the deadliest demonstrations in Ukraine in months – also injured 42 people.

The statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that it is “a serious affront to international humanitarian law”, and “another clear demonstration of the Nazi culture and the thuggery of the Kyiv regime, which deliberately attacks civilians and does not hesitate to kill children in cold blood”.

The Ukrainian military has denied responsibility for the strike on the student dormitory, saying it targeted a group of drone operators.

Commenting on Moscow’s threats and calling on tourists to leave Kyiv, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha urged allies not to give in to “Russian blackmail”.

More than 70 foreign diplomats on Monday paid their respects to the victims in Kyiv, visiting the heavily damaged area.

French Ambassador Gael Veyssiere said civilians would return to work on Monday and go about their daily lives.

“It’s a way of showing courage and I think it’s very important that we, around the world, support that,” Veyssiere told the Reuters news agency.

However, the threat may not materialize. Russia has fought hard Kyiv and the surrounding areas with large missile and drone arsenals since the Starobilsk strike.

At least four people are said to have been killed and more than 60 injured, according to Ukrainian government officials in the night’s events in the city and surrounding areas.
