Spanish foot Pep GuardiolaThe Manchester City manager has made a promise to the Citizens regarding his preparations to leave the Sky Club.
Guardiola took charge of Manchester City in their last game, which ended in a Premier League defeat by Aston Villa at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.
The Spanish coach leaves after a successful 10 years in which he won 20 titles, including six Premier League titles and the Champions League, while his final season saw a domestic double and a Premier League runner-up finish.
His former assistant Enzo Maresca, who was fired as Chelsea coach last January, is the most popular candidate to replace him.
Guardiola promised to tell Manchester City. “When the club informs me about the identity of the new coach, I will definitely contact him and say: be yourself and the club will support you unconditionally.”
“This is the biggest compliment or the biggest success that all the coaches who have passed through here have had. In difficult times, you will be protected more than any other club,” Guardiola added.
The Spanish coach continued. “Be yourself, be free, follow your ideas, work hard and everything will be fine.”
Guardiola’s departure was rumored early last week before the club officially announced his confirmation on Friday.
Guardiola, who intends to take a long break from football, has been planning his departure for some time.
The 55-year-old coach explained his situation, saying: “Yesterday I was in my house and I had no furniture, the house was almost completely empty and I only had one bed to sleep on.”
“I actually managed to do it and after a few weeks it was over,” he concluded.
