Ice Hockey World Championship: Great Britain relegated after 6-0 defeat by Latvia

Great Britain crashed out of the top division of the World Championship after losing 6-0 to Latvia in Zurich.

GB started well but were unable to convert their chances as Liam Kirk, David Clements and Brett Perlini all had their shots saved.

Latvia went ahead when Martins Dzirkals scored from close range and Denis Smirnovs and Rudolfs Balsers extended their lead.

Latvia kept up their momentum in the second period as goals from Eduards Tralmaks, Haralds Egle and Rainers Krastenberg led them to a 6-0 lead before a scoreless final period.

It was GB’s sixth defeat of the tournament as they went winless before their final group match against Germany on Monday.

Latvia keep their quarter-final hopes alive and face Hungary in their final group game on Tuesday.
