Guardiola warns of a “new Pep” at Manchester City

Confirm Pep Guardiola He will not give Manchester City any advice on his successor to coach the team, stressing that any new technical manager cannot be a copy of his predecessor.

Guardiola will step down after Sunday’s game against Aston Villa, bringing the curtain down on a 10-year career at the Etihad Stadium.

Former Chelsea manager and former Manchester City assistant Enzo Maresca is believed to be the club’s first choice to take over the job.

Guardiola does not expect to be asked for his opinion on a possible appointment, having insisted he should not be involved in the search for the next manager.

Guardiola said in a statement highlighted by ESPN. “The copy and paste policy cannot be applied to this type of work.”

He added: “You have to be unique, natural and yourself, and the new CTO will be the same. The moment it starts being a copy of someone else… everyone’s the same, that’s the way it should be, and that’s what makes it all right.”

As Manchester City prepares to sign a new manager, the club is still awaiting a verdict in its legal case with the English Premier League.

Guardiola has repeatedly defended Manchester City since the club faced 115 charges in February 2023 over alleged financial irregularities.

The 55-year-old coach emphasized that he has no reason to doubt that the club will be justified in the end.

The Spanish coach said. “I trust them. Because I have talked to them and I trust how they operate and how they work. So whatever happens, there will be a settlement. I trust them.”

Guardiola was planning to take a break after his last game as Manchester City manager.

Guardiola is regarded as one of the most decorated club managers of all time and his name has been linked with coaching national teams in the future.

When asked if he would welcome an offer from the England national team, Guardiola did not rule it out, but hinted that he was going to take a long holiday away from football first.

“I have absolutely no plans for my future, except to relax and get back the time I missed with my kids when they were growing up, and a lot of things I haven’t done and want to do.”

“So I’m not thinking for a second about anything related to football in the coming years or the years to come. I don’t think about that.”

He concluded. “I need to rest and think. We’ll see what happens after that. I don’t have a plan, just relax and do a lot of things I’ve wanted to do and haven’t done in the past. Those are the simple things I want to do.”
