Great Britain’s Georgia Taylor-Brown wins the Spain T100 triathlon

British triathlete Georgia Taylor-Brown cruised to an impressive first win on the T100 Tour in Spain.

Victory in Pamplona means Taylor-Brown, Britain’s most decorated female Olympic triathlete, is now second behind Switzerland’s Imogen Simmonds in the T100 race in Qatar.

The former world champion was fifth after the 2km swim, then moved to third after the 80km bike stage and beat Swiss Olympic silver medalist Julie Deron to second before taking control during the 18km run, with USA’s Taylor Spivey in third.

“I was trying to be pretty smart with my racing on the bike because it was hot,” said Taylor-Brown, 32.

“And then the run, I felt really good for the first and second laps. But I’m glad I went for it and got a gap because I really wanted to walk to the end of it.

“I feel good in training and just strong and happy and in a really good place. I’m really enjoying my new coach and my new team. I didn’t expect to win or anything, but I just feel strong and confident.”

Taylor-Brown’s fellow Brits Holly Lawrence and Lizzie Renner finished fourth and sixth respectively. Their compatriot Kate Waugh, the defending women’s T100 champion, missed the event with a calf injury.

The next women’s T100 event will be held in Vancouver in August, followed by the T100 World Championship final in Qatar in December.
