More than 1.5 million pilgrims brave the heat of Mecca ahead of the Haj | Weather

Pilgrims beat the heat by hiding under umbrellas and drinking plenty of water as the temperature in Mecca reaches 47°C during the Hajj, which runs from 24 to 29 May. Saudi Arabia has expanded the shaded areas at the Holy Mosques five times since 2024, when extreme heat killed more than 1,300 people.
