American Emma Navarro claimed her first title in more than a year as she beat top seed Victoria Mboko to win the Strasbourg Open.
The 25-year-old former world number eight Navarro put in a superb performance to beat her 19-year-old Canadian opponent 6-0 5-7 6-2 to claim a third WTA title and first on clay.
The win is a timely boost for Navarro ahead of the French Open, which starts on Sunday, after battling illness and being forced to withdraw from several tournaments.
“It’s been a bit of a rocky year or a year and a half, but I think we’ve done a really good job,” said Navarro, who started the week 39th.
Meanwhile, there was another American winner at the men’s Geneva Open as 20-year-old Lerner Tien defeated Argentina’s Mariano Navone 3-6 6-3 7-5 to secure his second career ATP title.
Tommy Paul missed out on a hat-trick of victories for the United States as Peruvian qualifier Ignacio Buss defeated sixth seed 7-6 (8-6) 4-6 6-3 in the Hamburg Open final.
After coming through a match that lasted more than three hours, Boos won Peru’s first ATP Tour title since Luis Horna in Vina del Mar in 2007.
Elsewhere, Petra Marcinko of Croatia won her first career title on the WTA Tour at the Morocco Open.
The world number 76 was leading 6-2 3-0 just 46 minutes into the final when Ukrainian opponent Anhelina Kalinina retired from the match.
