The creator of the MPC, Roger Linn, focused on a single browser

Roger Linn is a legend in the world of musical instruments. Over the years, he has been at the pinnacle of musical talent. He created the LM-1, the first drum machine to use samples, and its successor, the LinnDrumis one of the most popular drum machines of all time. It was used in countless articles in the 1980s, including being beaten by Tom Petty, Queenand Tears of Fear. But the most famous was probably Prince, who used them a lot Purple Rain and 1999.

In other words, this is not his greatest contribution to the world of music. It would, no doubt, be MPC. Linn teamed up with Akai to create one of the most popular and important samples. The MPC60 and its successors became a a weapon about choice about innumerable hip-hop and house producers. J Dilla’s MPC 3000 even though they live in the Smithsonian.

Roger Linn was also the first to adopt MPE, or MIDI polyphonic expression. That is an important part of him LinnStrument3D speaker controller released in 2014 – three years before the Association of Musical Electronics Industry (AMEI) legal release MPE standard. Apparently, the man is very smart about keeping things simple and straightforward.

My MacBook Pro.

What is most underrated?
My Vision Pro. I called it an amazing product that I rarely use.

What’s the first app you install on a new phone or computer?
On the computer, Rhino3D.

What’s one thing you’d like to change about your phone?
Cons of Apple Mail.

Which social media sites do you use the most (if any)?
I don’t use social media except to advertise my “All Things LinnStrument” email newsletter.

What’s your favorite place on the internet?
A VR version of Meta Quest called Walkabout Mini Golf. It was an abundance of well-crafted VR open worlds that deliver incredible beauty from the limited power of the Quest 3. I go there to play mini golf, fly around, or meet up with friends in a secret world.

What’s your favorite piece of equipment you’ve owned?
I don’t know about “always”, but these days it’s VR headsets, in this case Meta Quest 3 or Apple Vision Pro.

What was the biggest disappointment?
Oftentimes, I’m disappointed by products made by engineers who think their customers are engineers.

Which game do you remember?
Myst.

Which tech trend do you want to see go away?
Spam.

LinnStrument.

What is the best advice you have ever received?
Keep it simple.

VR.

What do you do when you want to focus?
Breathing. Keep calm.

I try to change my mind.

When was the last time you went somewhere without your phone?
I don’t go anywhere without my phone. Maybe swimming.

When was the last piece of screen you bought?
That would have been a long time ago. I just bought books, music, movies, etc.

What do you think should be confusing?
If someone made a VR headset with retina resolution, super power, lots of beautiful open space, but it was expensive, I’d probably buy it.

What would be the tagline of your biopic?
