The Union decides the fate of Conceição… and the seat of Inzagi awaits.

The Portuguese coach can sit in the chair of the Italian colleague

Al-Ittihad have been resolved over the fate of their Portuguese coach Sergio Conceicao following the end of last season’s Saudi Roshan League.

Al-Ittihad ended the last Rushen League season in the worst possible waybecause yesterday, Thursday, at the Al-Enmaa Stadium in Jeddah, they lost to “Al-Qadisiya” with a score of 1-5, in the thirty-fourth and last round of the competition.

Saudi newspaper Al-Riyadiya reported that Al-Ittihad club management intends to remove Conceicao as the team’s technical director, even though the contract he signed last October is extended for another two seasons.

The management of the federation is currently working on studying the financial consequences of Conceição’s departure before making a final decision on this matter.

These reports coincided with confirmation by Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport of the Portuguese coach’s nomination to take charge of Lazio next season, replacing Italian coach Maurizio Sarri.

The newspaper explained that Conceição is one of the candidates for that position, along with German Miroslav Klose, Italians Fabio Pisacani and Rafael Palladino, but he is not the strongest candidate.

Conceicao’s nomination is all the more emotional, especially because of his time with the team from 1998-2000, where he was one of the most famous league-winning elements in the 1999-2000 season.

Lazio are looking for a technical manager who will bring back memories of the era of Italian Simone Inzaghi, the current Al Hilal coach, who led the Italian capital side from 2016-2021 and won the Coppa Italia once and the local Super Cup twice.

It is noteworthy that Conceicao took over the coaching position of Al-Ittihad since last October, succeeding the Frenchman Laurent Blanc, in 41 matches he won 21 matches, approximately 50%, compared to 7 draws and 13 defeats.

The Portuguese coach failed to win any titles with the Tigers as he was knocked out of the Guardian of the Two Holy Mosques Cup in the semi-finals, the elite AFC Champions League in the quarter-finals and finished fifth in the Saudi Arabian league.
