‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’ | Anatomy of Scene

Director Jon Favreau narrates a sequence from his film, which features a character named by Martin Scorsese.

I’m Jon Favreau and I’m the director of “The Mandalorian and Grogu.” So this is about Hugo. It’s the food truck in “Star Wars.” That character is Hugo Durant, based on the title of Scorsese’s film “Hugo,” and that character is voiced by Martin Scorsese. We recorded his conversations and filmed videos, and his designs and videos were inspired by the radio drama we collected from all of his good looks and performances. This car was a practical car that we made, but the sandwich itself and the whole look is digital. Roy Choi, who was the chef I worked with on the movie “Chef,” was the food consultant on this, and he found the exact recipe for the sandwich. It’s called a slow cooker, and it’s like a grilled Spam sandwich. And what is being carried on top is the filling of the woolly egg. This is a replay of the second episode of the first season of “The Mandalorian”. (LAUGHS) “Something funny?” “Yes, yes, everyone… Everyone knows Rotta the Hutt!” And now he shows where to find Rotta the Hutt. And we can see that the posters are inspired by the style of an old boxing or wrestling movie.
