Here’s how you can watch the teams make their World Cup debuts this summer
African football enters a new era this summer as Cape Verde’s national team prepares to make its first appearance at the 2026 World Cup finals. The small island nation in the Atlantic Ocean, with a population of no more than half a million people, managed to pull off the impossible and stage a miraculous comeback in the African qualifiers to reach a major global event for the first time in its history.
The Blue Sharks face a tough test in a fiery Group H that will pit them against Spain, Uruguay and sister Saudi Arabia. Cape Verdean fans are expected to bring exceptional noise and color to stadiums in Atlanta, Miami and Houston.

Despite a poor start and a crushing defeat to Cameroon in Yaoundé (4-1), the Cape Verdean players have bounced back and achieved a remarkable streak of 7 consecutive matches without defeat. The historic qualification was underpinned by a defensive strike from Praia’s Estadio Nacional, where they kept five clean sheets and a 1-0 victory over the Rotten Lions was the decisive turning point in their World Cup dream.
The exclusive 2026 competition will be held in a trilateral joint organization, the largest in history, between America, Mexico and Canada, and the matches will be spread across 16 international stadiums;
