The rise of Curaçao has shocked world football. After settling for just 6 wins in their previous 3 World Cup qualifiers, the team has stepped up this time with 7 wins from 10 matches without a single defeat. The qualifiers saw some terrific attacking performances with wins over Barbados (4-1), Haiti (5-1) and Bermuda (7-0).
The team’s hopes were boosted by the return of the Dutch veteran coach Dick Lawyer He has a CV to manage the technical administration, with titles with PSV Eindhoven, Rangers and Zenit St Petersburg, with whom he won the 2008 European Cup.
