Stephen Bunting ended his Premier League campaign in style with a 6-3 win over reigning champions Luke Humphries in Sheffield to record his second night win of the year.
His batting was in good form all night and he sat down with seven 180s and an average of 106.37 for the win with a roaring South Yorkshire crowd eager to see Humphries, a Leeds United fan, bat.
At 5-3, Bunting started with six perfect darts to boost his nine-darter hopes of crushing him but had to settle down to end the impressive display with 12.
Despite losing Thursday’s final, Humphries did enough on the night to move up to third overall in the season standings and avoid world champion Luc Leiter in the semi-finals on the final night at London’s O2 Arena next Thursday.
Instead, Humphries will face Wales’ Jonny Clayton, while Ferret’s compatriot Gerwin Price will face Littler.
The victory moved Bunting ahead of Gian van Veen and Michael van Gerwen to fifth in the final standings.
With both players averaging over 100, Bunting won an impressive quarter-final with a 6-3 win over Clayton.
He then came from 2-0 down to beat Price in the semi-finals, posting a 161 check to win the first of three consecutive 100-plus matches.
Despite coming up short in the final, Humphries produced two impressive performances to get there, averaging 105.24 to defeat Van Gerwen in the last leg of the quarter-final before beating Leiter in the semi-finals.
The world number two won the 6 legs to win 6-1 and average 100 plus points for the final.
The off-spinner Littler averaged just 87.89 to overtake Josh Rock in the quarter-finals but missed out on breaking his own record points and Premier League nightly tally.
Attention now turns to London next week as Littler aims to regain the title he lost to Humphries last year.
But in their third straight final in pairs and Welsh duo Clayton and Price will have plenty to say about that.
