The original Birdie debuted in 2022 with an unassuming but exciting design – an air-powered light with a real canary in the coal mine. When the CO2 in your home reaches a certain level, the mechanical bird mounted on your wall will appear dead, prompting you to open a window to let things out. As soon as the breathing began to improve, the bird miraculously came back to life. The new Birdie Pro improves on the same design and methods, but adds additional sensors that provide a detailed analysis of the environment in your home.
Birdie Pro is now available through a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign and it can be ordered with a discount that brings its $299 MSRP to $199 for a limited time. Shipping is expected to begin in August 2026, and while this isn’t the company’s first Kickstarter, delays are always a possibility. chaos in the technological world right now.
Using new environmental sensors hidden in the base, the Birdie Pro can monitor other factors including temperature and humidity, and can connect to other data sources on the Internet, including Google APIs. The spectacular death of the bird is still used to indicate CO2 levels in a space, but through a new mobile app you can also monitor concerns such as mold risk, nearby pollen, and the air outside your home. The app also supports integration with smart home platforms Home Assistant and Home so you can change how you react to difficult things like turning on the air purifier.
