England World Cup squad: Harry Maguire and Fikayo Tomori to be left out.

Harry Maguire and Fikayo Tomori are among the centre-back options in England’s World Cup squad.

Both players have been called up in Thomas Tuchel’s former squad for friendlies against Japan and Uruguay, but will not be making the plane to North America.

In a post on his Instagram page, Maguire confirmed: “After the season I had, I was confident I could play a big role for my country this summer. I’m shocked and saddened by the decision. I wish the players all the best.”

Maguire’s Manchester United team-mate Luke Shaw is set to miss out despite an impressive season.

Shaw is named Tuchel’s 55-man provisional squad And there was a clamor to include it.

But Shaw is expected to miss out, with Newcastle’s Dan Byrne and Manchester City’s Nico O’Reilly in line for a call-up.

Arsenal winger Noni Maduke is expected to make the final 26, joining team-mates Bukayo Saka and Declan Rice.

Tuchel is set to name his squad for the World Cup, which kicks off on June 11.
